Draymond Green Ejected Amid Controversy Over Missed 3-Second Call in a Chaotic Season

Draymond Green was visibly upset after not receiving a phone call on Saturday and withdrew from the game just 30 seconds in. During the second quarter of the Golden State Warriors’ matchup with the Utah Jazz, Green was ejected after he challenged the referee’s failure to call a 3-second violation on Jazz player Kyle Filipowski. His frustration led him to step out of the key to confront referee Simone Jelks, allowing Jazz star Lauri Markkanen an easy dunk opportunity. Following this, Jelks handed Green a technical foul, and after continuing to argue, he was given a second technical foul, which resulted in an automatic ejection.

Green’s two technical fouls this season have earned him nine points, ranking him second in the NBA alongside Luka Doncic, with Dillon Brooks leading at 12 points. Notably, Green is the only player this season to have been ejected twice. Despite his early departure, the Warriors secured a 123-114 victory over the Jazz thanks to Stephen Curry’s 31 points.

Earlier incidents this season include Green being ejected on December 20 for shoving a Phoenix Suns player, a decision that remains controversial. Shortly after, he left a game following a heated exchange with Warriors coach Steve Kerr during a timeout. In November, Green also clashed with a New Orleans Pelicans fan over a taunt and received only a verbal warning. He has missed seven games this season, three due to a foot injury.

Green’s performances have dipped to some of his lowest averages in recent years, and the Warriors have lost 10 of the last 11 games he has played in, contributing to their modest 18-17 season start. Known for embracing chaos both on and off the court, it is notable that a simple missed 3-second call was enough to provoke an ejection from this already fiery player.

Fan Take: This incident highlights how Draymond Green’s passion and intensity continue to impact not just the Warriors but the league as a whole. For basketball fans, it serves as a reminder of how quickly emotions can boil over in the game, potentially affecting team dynamics and the flow of play in crucial moments.
