Patrick Kane Opens Up About Disappointment After Missing Team USA’s Olympic Roster

Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin is set to represent Team USA at the 2026 Winter Olympics, making him one of the rare NHL players chosen for the international event after more than ten years. Alongside Larkin, Moritz Seider of Germany and Lukas Raymond of Sweden were also selected for their respective national teams. Notably absent from the roster is Patrick Kane, widely considered one of the best American-born NHL players, as well as his former teammate Alex DeBrincat, who leads Detroit in goals this season with 22.

Following a practice session at Little Caesars Arena, Kane expressed his disappointment about not making Team USA. He reflected on the previous year when the new team coach gave him hope for selection, but injuries disrupted his season. Kane has missed 15 games due to injuries, impacting his ability to secure a spot on the Olympic team. Having represented the U.S. in the 2010 Vancouver Olympics (winning silver) and the 2014 Sochi Olympics, Kane is an American hockey legend, currently second to Mike Modano in all-time points by an American-born NHL player. Modano, who finished his career with Detroit, showed support for Kane and hopes to attend the Olympic games.

Kane has played 28 games this season, recording 6 goals and 18 assists, slightly below his usual scoring pace. Fans and hockey enthusiasts can follow ongoing updates and stories through The Hockey News and related platforms.

Fan Take: This selection highlights a significant moment in hockey as NHL players return to the Olympics, intensifying the global competition and showcasing elite talent like Dylan Larkin. Kane’s exclusion serves as a reminder of how injuries and timing can impact even the greatest players, adding drama and anticipation to the upcoming Olympic hockey tournament.
