  • Ruben Amorim failed to find consistency at Man United
  • Red Devils have substitutes available

Manchester United have sacked Ruben Amorim as head coach, bringing the 40-year-old’s tenure at Old Trafford to an abrupt end after just 14 months, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic.

The Portuguese manager was informed of the club’s decision earlier today and resigned with immediate effect following a complete breakdown in relations behind the scenes.

The decision marks another moment of significant change for Man United, which has been forced to undergo another management reset amid concerns over direction, results and internal harmony.

Tensions between Mr. Amorim and the club’s higher-ups have been simmering for some time, with disagreements over reinforcements strategy, according to people close to the situation.

Ruben Amorim failed to find consistency at Man United

Amorim arrived at United with a strong reputation built during his time at Sporting CP, and was widely praised for his modern tactical approach and ability to develop young players. However, despite initial optimism, his life in Manchester proved inconsistent.

Sources said United’s leaders were increasingly frustrated by what they perceived to be a lack of evolution in Amorim’s approach, particularly as the team struggled to cope during difficult times in both domestic and European competitions.

The strained relationship has reportedly reached a tipping point in recent weeks, making it impossible to retain his position despite the club’s initial desire for long-term stability.

Darren Fletcher is expected to take over as interim head coach immediately following Amorim’s departure.

Fletcher, who has been part of United’s football coaching structure in recent years, is seen as a stable presence who could provide short-term continuity while the club considers its next permanent appointment.

His deep understanding of the club’s culture and changing room dynamics is seen as a key asset during what is expected to be a delicate period of transition.

United are not expected to make a permanent appointment in a hurry, with reports saying the board will thoroughly consider candidates who fit their vision of a progressive and adaptable manager who can cope with the pressures of elite football.

For now, the focus at Old Trafford is on stabilizing performances, restoring morale within the squad and ensuring the season doesn’t go off course any further.
