The January transfer window will be Liverpool’s most important since the departure of manager Jurgen Klopp. The Reds have been well below average this season, and despite having a star-studded offense to choose from, the slot has taken a significant tactical step back.

In the meantime, there may still be some outgoings. Real Madrid have made a contract offer worth €120m (about £105m) for Ryan Gravenbirch, according to reports in Spain, leaving Anfield officials shocked.

The Spanish giants reportedly already signed Trent Alexander-Arnold last summer and are ready to trouble Liverpool again. This time, however, the Reds are prepared to fend off interest from the Bernabéu and are reported to have already begun talks to extend Gravenbirch’s contract.
It’s easy to see why Liverpool are keen to sign a midfielder. He has become a key player in Slot’s best teams, and the manager was not shy in expressing his admiration for him, telling reporters last season: “I was impressed, as was everyone who was in the stadium and watched the game.
“Ryan had another great performance today. Without the ball, he was pretty much our last line, but at times he had to play against the nine and against very fast wingers.”
The player himself appears to want to stay and those at Anfield are relieved that a new contract could be put on paper to end speculation about a move to Real Madrid.
