Cogburn, a Grade 1 winner and holder of a North American track record at WinStar Farm, welcomed his first reported foal on January 4. The filly, born at Goodwin Farm, is out of the Oasis Dream (GB) mare Posset (GB). This young filly is a full sister to Juddmonte’s multiple Grade 1 champion Midei (GB), who has earned over $3.4 million and won the 2009 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf. She was bred by Jay Goodwin, David Rogers, and Brooke Bufkin.

Jay Goodwin described the filly as exceptionally fast and energetic, noting how she quickly became lively in the paddock. Cogburn, a speedy son of the popular stallion Not This Time, made history in 2024 by becoming the fastest Group 1-winning sprinter globally. He achieved an emotional victory in the Grade 1 Jaipur Stakes at Saratoga, setting a North American grass record for five-and-a-half furlongs with a remarkable time of 59.80 seconds, easily surpassing the previous record of 1:00.21 from 2019. He earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 114 for this performance.

In addition to that, Cogburn won the prestigious $2 million Grade 2 Turf Sprint Stakes at Kentucky Downs and nearly broke the six-furlong grass course record with a time of 1:07.68 in his following race. Over his career, Cogburn finished first or second in 11 out of 16 starts and earned $2,422,630 for owners Clark Brewster, William and Colin Heiligbrodt, and trainer Steve Asmussen. He descends from the stakes-winning mare In a Jiff, by Sentry Look, who produced 194 mares during her first stud season last year.

Cogburn’s stud fee for the upcoming breeding season will be $25,000 S&N.

Fan Take: This news is exciting for horse racing enthusiasts because Cogburn’s remarkable speed and proven consistency on the track highlight his potential to sire future champions. His offspring could bring thrilling competition and maintain the sport’s legacy of elite sprinting talent.
