Álvaro Bautista feels that he has paved the way for MotoGP riders to see World Superbike (WSBK) as a viable career path. After losing his MotoGP seat at the end of 2018, Bautista joined Ducati in World Superbike, where he won consecutive world titles in 2022 and 2023, though he has finished third over the last two seasons. Since 2019, several MotoGP riders such as Danilo Petrucci, Iker Lecuona, and Miguel Oliveira have transitioned to World Superbike. In an interview with Sports S, Bautista expressed a sense of responsibility to encourage more MotoGP riders to consider WSBK as a credible alternative. Initially reluctant to join WSBK, Bautista acknowledged that his move helped open the door for others and boosted the championship’s profile and professionalism. He noted that by 2026, notable MotoGP riders like Somkiat Chantra, Miguel Oliveira, and Jake Dixon will be competing in WSBK, further establishing it as a strong contender alongside MotoGP. Bautista also mentioned that while challenges remain, especially in Spain, the championship’s growth and increasing competition level are helping attract more fans and raise its reputation.

Fan Take: Bautista’s journey highlights an important shift in motorcycle racing, showing that World Superbike is becoming a respected platform for top talent. This trend could create more opportunities for riders and intensify competition, making the sport even more exciting for fans worldwide.
