Liverpool could still be in the race for a potential move for Crystal Palace defender Marc Gehi in January, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The England international is in the final year of his contract with Palace and interest in him is growing as Manchester City attempt to negotiate a deal.

But Romano said Gehi’s move to City had not yet been finalized and that Liverpool should not forget who had the player “in hand” before his contract collapsed in the final stages in the summer.

Liverpool fans will no doubt be disappointed that the deal didn’t go through, but it looks like the Reds still have a chance to make a deal.

Romano revealed on his YouTube channel that LFC are following Guehi’s situation and, despite ongoing negotiations with Palace, it appears he has no intention of getting fully involved in the relationship with City.

“The door to a general exit for Marc Gehi is not closed. Man City is heading there,” Romano said.

“Man City are in talks with Crystal Palace to sign Marc Gehi, but nothing has been decided yet. Nothing has been agreed.”

“Don’t forget about Bayern’s call-up, and don’t forget about Liverpool’s call-up.The situation revolves around Marc Göch, as Bayern and Liverpool are eyeing this opportunity ahead of the summer transfer window.

“Liverpool think internally that it will be difficult to make a deal in January.

“But I’ll never say never. I’m going to keep everything open about this because Liverpool did buy players in the summer transfer window. Then we found out that the deal fell apart, so Liverpool remain interested.”

Where will Mark Gehi end up?

Guehi may be better off with a long-term move to Liverpool, as City’s interest seems to be primarily driven by injuries.

Josep Guardiola’s side have just lost Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol, both of whom could be out for long periods of time, so Gehi will now play a key role.

However, the return of the pair could further cement Guehi’s place in the team, and Liverpool could be the better option for him, even if it hasn’t been his best season at Anfield.
