Chelsea are reportedly ready to commit to a move for Barcelona’s attacking midfielder Fermin López.
According to Spanish newspaper Fichajes, the Blues are said to be willing to go “all in” to sign López, having made a huge offer of 150 million euros from Barça.
This would be completely un-Chelsea, as under the current ownership Chelsea tend to prioritize investing wisely in younger, lesser-known talent for the future.
In contrast, Fermin is already a big name and a very important player for Barcelona, so he won’t come cheap.
At the same time, however, Fichajes’ report suggests that a bid as high as 150 million euros may be difficult to ignore due to the Catalan giants’ financial problems.
Fermin Lopez’s move to Chelsea could be a great move to boost Liam Rosenior
Chelsea have just appointed Liam Rosenior as their new manager, replacing Enzo Maresca, and he will no doubt be looking to make some changes to the team he inherited at Stamford Bridge.
This season has not been the best for CFC, so a change in manager is being made, and the arrival of someone like Lopez could be a big boost to improve the team’s results and performance.
The talented 22-year-old has scored eight goals and provided six assists for Barcelona so far this season and can provide a threat from a variety of attacking positions.
Lopez, who can also play up front, out wide or as a number 10, could be an upgrade on some of Chelsea’s recent underwhelming additions in these positions.
Cole Palmer has struggled a bit, but other new additions like Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens haven’t lived up to expectations.
This could mean Lopez will play a key role under Rosenior, as he looks to rebuild Chelsea’s side and make them winners again.
