Napoli manager Antonio Conte has reportedly made a “personal move” to secure the transfer of Liverpool winger Federico Chiesa.

The Italy international has struggled to look his best during his time at Anfield, so it’s no wonder there is now talk of a potential return to Serie A.

Chiesa was a key player at his former club Juventus, and one imagines that Napoli could improve if given the chance to play more often.

The 28-year-old started just one Premier League game all season for Liverpool, so he will no doubt be tempted if an offer comes his way in the near future.

Italian journalist Emanuele Cammaroto told Radio Punto Zero that Conte personally tried to lure Chiesa to Napoli.

“Chiesa? Conte made a personal move,” Camaroto said, as translated by Sport Witness.

“Juventus are very interested in the former player, while Napoli have a great relationship with Federico and his father Enrico.”

It will be interesting to see if this leads to a definite move, but it’s easy to see why it would be attractive to Chiesa after a difficult spell at Liverpool.

Liverpool could risk letting go of Chiesa

Even though LFC clearly doesn’t use Chiesa very often, they aren’t necessarily in the best position at the moment, so it might be good to keep him to add depth to the team.

Arne Slott may need Chiesa at some point, as he had all three players absent for Thursday night’s away game against Arsenal: Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike.

Salah is currently involved in AFCON, but Isak and Ekitike are injured, so one or two more injuries could be a big problem for Liverpool, who could turn to Chiesa to replace them.
