  • Spurs bid to replace Kudus

        • Spurs are favorites to sign their best right-winger since Bale for £87m

Thomas Frank is a man under pressure at Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs have won only one of their last seven games and have been eliminated from the FA Cup.

To be honest, it looks like it will be another trophyless season for the Lilywhites. Their chances of winning the Champions League are almost non-existent.

Combine this predicament with this season’s disastrous injury record and the situation will only get worse. Frank has no record of signing Dominic Solanke for virtually the entire campaign, while James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski remain long-term absentees.

Summer signing Mohamed Kudus joins the squad and Spurs will need to source a replacement for the injured Ghanaian as they enter the season in January.

Spurs bid to replace Kudus

Kudus was forced off in the first half of the game against Spurs and Sunderland, and unfortunately that was the last we saw of him for several months.

Frank, who suffers a quadriceps injury, confirmed he will not be able to meet the former West Ham United player until after the March international break. Considering his vacation falls at the end of the month, he won’t be back in action until April.

The timing couldn’t have been worse considering the North Londoners just sold Brennan Johnson.

That being said, Spurs’ recruitment team has sprung into action and reports in Spain say they are moving to sign a replacement.

Indeed, one source claims Spurs are looking for an “immediate improvement in quality” and have identified Real Madrid winger Brahim Dias as a “top target”.

Spurs have a huge interest in the player and have already submitted a bid of €60m (approximately £52m) to sign him from the Spanish capital.

The Lilywhites are said to be confident of enticing him to leave the Bernabéu for north London by offering him a “leading role” in the team.

Why Diaz is a likely successor to Kudus

It’s been a long time since Dias was on Manchester City’s books. The 26-year-old, who was born in Spain and currently plays for Morocco, made 15 appearances for the Citizens, scoring two goals.

He left Manchester and now found himself playing for Real Madrid, the greatest club team in the land. If you’re getting game time regularly with Xabi Alonso’s charges, you’re not a bad player.

Dias may have only scored one goal in 18 games this season, but that doesn’t tell the whole story of his quality. After all, he actually started just three times in La Liga throughout the 2025/26 season.

Last season, the winger scored six goals and provided eight assists. Of course, these aren’t amazing numbers, but they are a fairer reflection of what he can offer. Consider that he actually started just 23 times in all competitions, a statistic that is arguably even more impressive.

So why is he the perfect replacement for the injured Kudus? Well, like the Ghanaian star, he’s not just a winger, he’s also an attacking midfielder. He’s right-handed and a little different than Kudus, but both are just as creative and capable of finding the net.

A closer look at the 2024/25 numbers supports that claim.

Obviously, Kudus is a tricky dribbler with the ball and is much more likely to challenge opponents. Still, Diaz looks like the more complete package.

In his limited minutes, he actually scored more goals per 90 minutes than Kudus last season and was a better chance creator, supplying more key passes and progressive passes to his teammates.

Hailed as an “amazing” talent by Italian soccer expert Mina Luzuki during her loan spell at Milan, she also said Dias “breaks lines very well and works in tight spaces.” That sounds pretty much like Kudus, right?

What Spurs need at the moment is a player who can create goal-scoring chances. With Maddison, Kulusevski and Kudus all out, Diaz ticks a lot of boxes for Frank and co.

This is undoubtedly an astute signing by Tottenham Hotspur Stadium’s head of recruitment.
