  • Man City are considering defensive options on the market
  • Guardiola wants more depth in the right-back position

Manchester City are considering a potential move for highly-rated Benfica right-back Amar Dedic, according to Bosnian media outlet Oslobojenje.

The 23-year-old, who represents Bosnia and Herzegovina’s national football team, has attracted the attention of clubs across Europe following his good performance in Portugal.

Josep Guardiola’s side are currently exploring the possibility of bringing him to the Etihad Stadium in January or, more realistically, in the summer.

Known for his strong defensive instincts and ability to advance the ball from deep positions, Dedic has made great strides since joining Benfica.

His performances in the Primeira Liga and European competitions have raised his profile, with Man City emerging as one of the clubs monitoring his development most closely.

Man City are considering defensive options on the market

City are evaluating a January swoop, but the more likely scenario is a summer transfer, with Benfica traditionally reluctant to let key players go mid-season.

Nevertheless, Dedic has caught the attention of manager Guardiola as the Premier League champions look to address their defensive depth and prepare a long-term succession plan at full-back.

This interest comes during Man City’s already active transfer window.

The club made a big statement by signing Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth, and the move immediately paid off.

Semenyo scored and assisted on his debut for City against Exeter in the FA Cup, demonstrating the explosive qualities that Guardiola believes will strengthen City’s attacking options in the second half of the season.

With City competing on multiple fronts including the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup, Guardiola is expected to continue to consider opportunities to strengthen his squad.

Signing defensive players is likely to be a focus, especially given City’s demanding fixture schedule and recent injury concerns among their backline.

Dedic can provide competitiveness and cover for players like Matheus Nunez, who has been used a lot this season.

Man City will continue to track Dedic closely as the January period progresses. While a mid-season move remains a possibility, all signs point to a summer move being the more realistic option.
