Tottenham Hotspur are expected to step up their bid for a “fantastic” new defender amid uncertainty over Radu Dragusin’s future.

Spurs compete to sign new defender despite Dragusin’s future uncertain

Dragusin only recently returned from a lengthy injury spell and came on as a late substitute in the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace, but has been unable to maintain his place in the team, having sat on the bench in the last three Premier League games.

The Romanian’s future in north London is therefore up in the air, with Fabrizio Romano recently revealing he wants to leave Tottenham after penning an “agreement” with Serie A side AS Roma.

Of course, Thomas Frank already has Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero at his disposal as centre-backs, with Kevin Danso able to slot in as a back-up option if needed.

However, with Dragusin’s future up in the air, it makes sense to bring in an additional option at the back, with Spurs now in the race to sign the Serie A defender.

This comes as Caught Offside reports that Tottenham are expected to step up their bid for Sassuolo star Tarik Muharemovic in the final stages of the season, but there could be competition for his signature.

Manchester United, Newcastle United and a number of other European clubs are keen to sign the centre-back, with RB Leipzig prepared to offer €25 million plus bonuses, but it is unclear whether that will be enough to entice the Italian club to sell.

Sassuolo are reluctant to allow him to leave midway through the season, but a bidding war is expected when the summer transfer window opens.

‘Great’ Muharemovic could be an ideal Dragusin replacement

Dragusin has been kept off the bench in recent weeks and is finding it difficult to force his way into Frank’s plans, but there are signs that the Sassuolo centre-back could challenge the likes of Van de Ven and Romero for a place in the starting XI.

Spurs are keen to sign a new defender.

The Bosnian’s excellent defensive qualities have been consistently on display over the past year, while his attacking prowess has also been on display this season in Serie A, where he has scored two goals and provided two assists.

Muharemovic is at the right age to have long-term success at Tottenham, and with Dragusin’s future uncertain, bringing in a new centre-back would be a wise move.
