  • Glen Johnson talks about Alejandro Garnacho transfer
  • Is Chelsea’s transfer policy working?

Former Chelsea star Glen Johnson has revealed that he thinks the signing of Alejandro Garnacho was a disappointment.

The Argentina international joined from Manchester United last summer, and it’s probably fair to say that the deal received mixed reviews from fans.

Garnacho has shown signs of great potential at Man United and has been regarded as a top young player for many years.

At the same time, however, many Red Devils fans were relieved to see him leave, as he had a reputation for being difficult and unprofessional.

It’s more that Garnacho hasn’t contributed much on the pitch in what has been a pretty frustrating season for the club so far at Chelsea.

Speaking about Garnacho’s time at Stamford Bridge so far, Johnson didn’t hold back in giving an honest assessment of the 21-year-old.

“I think Alejandro Garnacho has been a disappointment since he signed for Chelsea,” Johnson told Metro.

“It was a mistake to sign him, not because of his ability, I think he has talent, but Chelsea have a lot of great wingers.

“Sure, he can cause havoc on his day, but one goal so far this season is not enough for the amount of money they spent on him.”

Is Chelsea’s transfer policy working?

Garnacho is one of a long list of failures the Chelsea owner has signed, moving away from signing proven superstars during the Roman Abramovich era.

Players like Joao Félix, Romeo Lavia, Liam Delap and Mykhailo Mudryk have also not worked out, and even those who have signed better players have not been able to contribute to success.

Enzo Maresca was recently sacked as manager due to poor form and replaced by Liam Rosenior, but questions must certainly be asked about the club’s recent reinforcements.
