Man City submit formal bid for £50,000-a-year star

The Citizens have been at their bare minimum in recent weeks as injury problems once again caught up with Pep Guardiola’s side. The backline in particular has been hit by an injury crisis, with Max Alleyne forced to recall from his loan spell at Watford.

The young defender was thrust straight into the starting XI and didn’t look out of place as Man City secured a 2-0 win against Newcastle United in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.

Alleyne admitted he wasn’t expecting a midweek start and said it’s been a “crazy” few weeks.I never expected it to start, so it was really fun. The past week or so has been crazy but I wouldn’t trade it for anything, it’s been fun and I’ve loved every second of it.

“I’m really proud of the team because it was our first game since coming back. It wasn’t easy. We have to focus on the football and eliminate other distractions. They’re a very tough, physical team and it’s a very loud place, so it’s a difficult place to come to.”

Next up is the small matter of the Manchester derby, which will give the youngster another chance to impress before the Citizens welcome much-needed reinforcements in that area.

Fabrizio Romano says Man City have “already submitted” an offer to sign Marc Gehi from Crystal Palace, after making a contract offer for the England international.

Romano revealed on Friday morning that City had been “presented with a significant offer” for the player and would now “proceed” with negotiations with the club, but confirmed the bid for the first time in a cheeky response to City fans.

Guehi could change Man City’s title hopes

The Citizens saved their season by making a rapid-fire reinforcement deal last January. Now, a year later, bringing in Guehi after already adding Antoine Semenyo could do exactly the same thing.

The Crystal Palace man, who could command a transfer fee of around £30m this month, would instantly earn a place in Guardiola’s starting team and ease the Spaniard’s recent defensive concerns.

The £50,000-a-week defender faces a big decision about his future as a number of clubs pursue his signature. He can either stay at Crystal Palace until the end of his current contract and leave as a free agent, or take the chance to join Man City this month.

Given that Man City are still in the title race and are just six points behind Arsenal, the chance to win silver may be too good to pass up.

After Guehi: Man City line-up to sign another Semenyo for Pep

It would be another great Semenyo-like signing for Manchester City.

Those in the Manchester City dressing room will be well aware of Guehi’s talent. After partnering the Palace star at Euro 2024, John Stones told reporters:Even though he came in having never experienced tournament football and the emotions that come with this type of game, he handled them well in his performance. ”
