Manchester United are currently reported to be in talks to take over Liverpool’s move to add young defenders this month.

Manchester United begin contract talks with Liverpool target

It’s been a crazy month at Old Trafford for all sorts of unfair reasons. In the space of a month, the Red Devils sacked Ruben Amorim, gave Darren Fletcher a short spell as caretaker manager and then appointed Michael Carrick on an interim basis until the end of the season. For everyone involved at Manchester United, it is all too familiar.

Nevertheless, the task now rests in Carrick’s hands. Nothing could be bigger for the former midfielder, whose only managerial experience to date has been at Middlesbrough.

“My focus now is to support our players to reach the standards we expect at this great club, and I know this team is more than capable.

“I have already worked with some of the players and have naturally continued to follow the squad closely in recent years. I have full faith in their talent, dedication and ability to succeed here. We still have a lot to fight for this season.”

Carrick’s first match will be the Manchester derby against Manchester City. It couldn’t be more difficult than that, but the new manager will at least have a chance to evaluate his team in one of the biggest games of the season.

This month he was able to request reinforcements. He is not the only target, with reports already suggesting United could use Carrick’s connections to sign Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough.

Murillo’s name has also been mentioned and looks likely to be a summer target, as is Sheffield Wednesday’s young defender Isa Allao.

According to Football Insider, Manchester United began contract negotiations with Alao earlier this month in a bid to take over Liverpool’s move.

At 17 years old, Alao is a player of the future.

Although he may not immediately garner attention, Alao is one to keep an eye on. Sheffield Wednesday have been doomed to relegation since taking over, but the 17-year-old has had appearances in the Carabao Cup, Championship and FA Cup.

Let’s take a look at how Manchester United will fare under manager Michael Carrick.

He also became one of the youngest players to play for the Owls when he featured against Bolton Wanderers at just 16 years old earlier this season. Now, thanks to Man United, he could be destined for even bigger things.

The big question is whether Alao chooses to remain at Sheffield Wednesday in pursuit of game time. Manchester United could offer him a move to the Premier League, even though he has played time in their academy. The Owls could give him plenty of first-team chances, especially in League One next season.
