Aston Villa are growing increasingly confident of securing Tammy Abraham’s sensational return, with club officials encouraged by the outcome of recent negotiations with the player’s camp.

According to Ben Jacobs, the 28-year-old striker is open to a return to Villa Park and the Premier League title challengers are prepared to offer him a long-term contract as part of their rebuild in January.

Abraham has long been on manager Unai Emery’s shortlist, with the club looking to add a proven goalscorer to support Ollie Watkins in the second half of the season.

Villa are competing on multiple fronts, including the Premier League, FA Cup and Europe, making the need for attacking depth more urgent.

The England international had a prolific season on loan at Villa in 2018-19, but is fondly remembered at Birmingham after scoring 26 goals in 40 games and helping the club win promotion to the Premier League.

Sources close to the player said he welcomed his return to the club where he rekindled his career.

Roma are open to selling the attacker and would accept a fee of less than £15m.

However, the problem lies with Besiktas, where Abraham is currently on loan. His season-long contract includes a conditional buyout obligation worth £11m, meaning the Turkish club will control his short-term future.

Besiktas must agree to an early termination of the loan or waive its purchase obligation.

Early signs suggest they are reluctant to do so unless they receive compensation or the final structure of the deal guarantees a financial benefit.

Despite signing Brian Maggio early on, Villa are still actively looking for another striker to rotate with Watkins.

Villa remains “optimistic” and believes the player’s desire to join could help accelerate negotiations.

Negotiations between the three clubs are still ongoing and there are growing expectations that an agreement will be reached before the negotiating period closes.
