Chelsea are set to compete with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United over the potential transfer of Rennes centre-back Jeremy Jacquet.
As reported in the Daily Briefing, we heard in January that the Blues were looking to sign a new defensive player and added Jaquet to their target list.
The highly-rated young Frenchman is thought to be on the radar of Arsenal, with Manchester United also monitoring him.
Jacquet could leave Rennes for around 30 million euros and it seems inevitable that he will quickly earn a move to a bigger club, especially with that cheap fee.
Jeremy Jaquet will have his choice of top Premier League clubs
If he ends up receiving offers from all three teams – Chelsea, Arsenal and Man United – then Jaquet will have to make a choice.
All three clubs are big names in soccer, but each move will have different positives and negatives.
Arsenal are currently the most competitive team, with Mikel Arteta’s side leading the Premier League standings by six points and generally looking like one of the best teams in Europe at the moment.
Still, with the presence of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães, Jaquet may struggle to play regularly for the Gunners, so it may not be the best move for his development.
Chelsea are quite reliable when it comes to giving opportunities to young players, so Stamford Bridge could become quite attractive.
At the same time, Liam Rosenior knows Jaquet well from his days in Ligue 1, but Chelsea’s project has been a bit of a hot topic of late due to frequent managerial changes.
United, on the other hand, should also be able to give Jaquet a key role, but with further managerial changes and uncertainty over what the situation will be like at Old Trafford this summer, they are probably even more in turmoil than Chelsea.
