Fabrizio Romano of Manchester United.
According to transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United officials are expected to hold talks with caretaker manager Michael Carrick.
The Red Devils are expected to discuss plans with Carrick for the January transfer window.
United are confident of their victory over Manchester City and are looking to make a decision on transfer business this month.
The Red Devils welcomed Amad Diallo and Brian Mbeumo from AFCON this weekend, with both players contributing to the win against Pep Guardiola’s side.
United are looking sharp again both in attack and defense and could be in the market for a new midfielder.
Romano provides important update on Man United transfer
Romano confirmed that Carrick will discuss decisions with the club in the January transfer window.
Romano said on his Youtube channel:
“I want to mention something about Manchester United because there will be an internal meeting at Manchester United in the next few hours, early this week, and it will also include Michael Carrick’s thoughts.”
“It’s not going to be decided by Michael Carrick, it’s going to be Michael Carrick who started the Manchester United chapter in great fashion by winning the Manchester derby, showing very good energy and very good football.
“But at the same time, Carrick will be involved in discussions with Man United to decide on some of the circumstances and what they want to do on the market between now and the end of the January transfer window.
“If they want to buy a player opportunistically, maybe midfield, maybe another position, maybe a striker. So they need to evaluate Michael Carrick and make a decision, or they need to continue with their current squad and invest in the summer.”
Should the Red Devils make a deal in January?
United could be looking for a short-term solution this month, as a permanent head coach would logically make much more sense in signing a big contract.
They have been linked with the transfer of several midfielders, but it remains to be seen whether they will monitor the players closely and act on their interest before making a move in the summer.
In addition to bringing players back from AFCON, the performances of both Cobie Mainoo and Harry Maguire were a huge boost for the club.
Maguire returned from injury and Mainu started in the first Premier League game of the season after spending most of his time on the bench under former manager Ruben Amorim.
Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte have both shown instability this season and their futures at Old Trafford remain uncertain, so signing the midfielder will be their priority even if United enter the market this month.
