  • Chelsea continues their young player transfer policy with Issa Alao set to join
  • Do Chelsea need more experience?

Chelsea are reportedly set to sign Sheffield Wednesday full-back Isa Alao ahead of three other Premier League clubs.

Fabrizio Romano made his trademark “here we go” declaration in the lead-up to the transfer, making a cryptic reference to how the Blues beat out other teams in the Premier League with this deal.

This follows Liverpool and Manchester United recently being linked with Alao by the Daily Mail, and they could potentially be two of the three clubs on the list.

See below for more of Romano’s latest posts on X.

“Chelsea agreed to sign talented 17-year-old full-back Isa Alao from Sheffield on Wednesday. Let’s go! The initial fee is over £500,000, with significant add-ons to come. Chelsea beat a further three top PL clubs to sign him,” Romano said.

Chelsea’s current owners and board have done it again in acquiring an elite prospect with a big future in the game.

The Blues have made a number of similar signings since Todd Boley and Behada Egbali replaced Roman Abramovich, but they have been met with mixed reactions from the club’s fans.

So far, Cole Palmer and Estevao Willian appear to be the biggest success stories, with perhaps fewer hits than misses.

Do Chelsea need more experience?

But at the same time, many Chelsea fans will be furious that their club can no longer compete for the biggest names in world football.

A few more experienced names would definitely help this CFC team, but perhaps the plan is for this current squad to grow together.

With the likes of Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandes now more senior members of the team than when they arrived, this project could eventually grow to more closely resemble the Abramovich era.
