Fabrizio Romano has provided a major transfer update as Chelsea have been in positive talks to sign Jeremy Jacquet.
However, Rennes are determined to make their biggest sale ever for the talented young French centre-back, and the Blues face having to pay big money to make the deal happen.
Romano provided the latest insight into the negotiations on his YouTube channel, and Jaquet himself appears to be satisfied with the possibility of a move to Stamford Bridge.
“I’ve talked a lot about Chelsea’s talent…Jérémy Jacquet is one of Chelsea’s main candidates for a new centre-back in the January transfer window.
“Chelsea decided to participate because a few days ago they met with Rennes in France and went on a mission to start very positive conversations on the player’s side, but there was still no agreement between the clubs.”
“Rennes are still demanding huge sums of money at the moment, so at this stage there is no chance of an agreement or a closer relationship between the clubs. Negotiations are ongoing, but they are complicated at this stage.”
Jeremy Jacquet’s transfer looks complicated, but Chelsea have other options
Romano went on to say that Chelsea would not necessarily be stuck if they were unable to agree a deal with Jaquet.
According to Romano, even though CFC would ideally bring in Jaquet to improve their defence, they could also try to bring back Aaron Anselmino from his loan to Borussia Dortmund.
Chelsea have been spending a lot of money on top young players recently, but they probably don’t want to be held to ransom like this.
Other clubs are paying attention to Jeremy Jacquet
Romano said in the video that other clubs are also interested in Jaquet, but they would have to pay big money to satisfy Rennes.
It has previously been reported that Arsenal are considering Jaquet as a transfer target, so this could be one of the clubs Romano has mentioned.
Manchester United are also fans of Jaquet, so it will be interesting to see if Chelsea’s struggle to agree a contract means those teams are back in the race for the 20-year-old.
