  • Will Cristiano Ronaldo reach 1,000 career goals?

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has perhaps chosen a somewhat surprising candidate for what he considers to be the greatest goal of all time.

A few years ago, Neville made the interesting choice on his podcast to shoot Man United’s Cristiano Ronaldo with a powerful header away to Roma in the 2007-08 season.

There is no doubt that this was a great goal, and probably one of the greatest headers of all time, but it probably wouldn’t rank in most United fans’ top five goalscorers of club history, or Ronaldo’s best goal at Old Trafford.

“His goal against Roma to date is the best goal I’ve ever seen, a header,” Neville said.

“His header away against Roma was the most miraculous goal I’ve ever seen.

“He dived from the edge of the box and headed it into the penalty spot at full speed.

“He almost sprinted from the halfway line. I’ve never seen anything like it.”

See below for more about his famous goals. Ronaldo certainly made a great run on Paul Scholes’ cross and fired home at the Stadio Olimpico…

However, given Ronaldo’s famous long-range attacks from both open play and free-kicks, as well as that bicycle kick he scored for Real Madrid away against Juventus late in his career, it’s debatable whether this header ranks among the Portuguese’s top 10 individual goals.

Meanwhile, Neville’s claims are a little surprising, as Red Devils fans will fondly remember the stunning volleys of Wayne Rooney and Scholes, as well as David Beckham’s half-way line lob against Wimbledon.

Will Cristiano Ronaldo reach 1,000 career goals?

Ronaldo is closing in on an astonishing 1,000 career goals, with the 40-year-old forward now on 960 goals.

While it’s difficult to know for sure when Ronaldo will reach that notable landmark, igaming.com can be a useful guide to data-driven responsible gambling.

As the 2026 World Cup approaches, Ronaldo will once again take center stage and aim to bring Portugal its first ever glory.

It’s been 10 years since CR7 helped his country win that famous Euro 2016, but he’s still going strong and could be the star of the North American tournament.

It would give him the opportunity to increase his career goals tally and at the same time he continues to score goals for Al Nasr, so perhaps realistically he will reach 1,000 goals by the end of this year.
