NASCAR Cup Clash at Legendary Bowman Gray: Racing Icon Bart Myers Takes the Wheel at Historic Short Track

Bert Myers is set to drive a NASCAR Cup car once again at the Preseason Clash held at Bowman Gray Stadium. He will be behind the wheel of the No. 50 Chevrolet representing Team Ameribet. Last year, a crash involving Ricky Stenhouse Jr., who made a lighthearted appearance in the 2026 team announcement video, stopped Myers from qualifying for the main event.

A few months later, Myers officially debuted in a points race at Martinsville Speedway, where he finished 36th for Team Ameribet. Veteran crew chief Tony Urie Jr., known for his past work with Dale Earnhardt Jr. at DEI, will continue to lead Myers’ team from the pit box.

“It’s very meaningful to have another opportunity to race a Bowman Gray Cup car,” Myers expressed. “I felt I had more to give last time, so I’m thankful to Team AmeriVet and our sponsors for trusting me and allowing me to compete again in front of my fans.”

Myers is one of the most successful drivers in Bowman Gray history, alongside Tim Brown, having celebrated his 100th track win last May. At 50 years old, he is also a 10-time champion at “The Madhouse” which is renowned for its thrilling short-track racing.

Fan Take: Bert Myers’ return highlights the deep-rooted connection between grassroots racing and NASCAR’s top level, showing that talent from legendary local tracks can shine on bigger stages. This mix of veteran grit and fresh chances is exciting for fans and adds compelling storylines to the evolving NASCAR landscape.
