The New York Mets are set to acquire All-Star right-handed pitcher Freddy Peralta from the Milwaukee Brewers, according to a Thursday report by ESPN. In return, the Brewers will receive top Mets prospects Jett Williams and Brandon Sproat, along with right-hander Tobias Myers. Both Williams and Sproat are highly regarded in the Mets’ minor league system, ranked third and fifth respectively.

Peralta concluded the 2025 MLB season with an impressive 17-6 record, a 2.70 ERA, and 204 strikeouts across 33 starts. This marked his first All-Star appearance since 2021. The 29-year-old has spent his entire major league career with Milwaukee after signing as an international free agent with the Seattle Mariners in 2013 and being traded to the Brewers in 2015. He made his MLB debut in 2018.

Joining the Mets’ pitching staff, Peralta will slot into a rotation featuring Nolan McLean, David Peterson, Kodai Chiga, Clay Holmes, and Sean Manaea. He is also the latest star acquisition for New York, following two-time All-Star Bo Bichette and one-time All-Star Luis Robert Jr. Peralta is in the final year of a five-year, $15.5 million contract extension signed in 2020, with $8 million owed for the 2026 season before he becomes a free agent.

Fan Take:
This trade signals the Mets’ commitment to strengthening their pitching staff and contending at the highest level. For baseball fans, Peralta’s addition could elevate the team’s performance and intensify competition in the league, promising more thrilling games ahead.
