NBA delays Nuggets vs. Grizzlies matchup as severe weather sweeps in

The NBA has postponed the Sunday matchup between the Denver Nuggets and Memphis Grizzlies due to severe weather conditions, as reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania. Memphis is currently experiencing temperatures around 18°F amid the ongoing winter storm.

This weekend’s storm has also led to various schedule changes for both NBA and college sports across the country.

The Dallas Mavericks, who were set to face the Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday, remain grounded on the tarmac in Dallas, according to ESPN’s Tim McMahon. With a flight delay exceeding two hours, the game may be postponed. Dallas is also facing chilly conditions at approximately 18°F.

Additionally, the Washington Wizards and Charlotte Hornets adjusted their game time on Saturday, starting at noon—three hours earlier than the original 3 p.m. tip-off.

In women’s college basketball, No. 14 Baylor’s home game against Houston has been rescheduled to Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET, moving from its initial Sunday date.

North Carolina Central has postponed four basketball games, two men’s and two women’s, originally planned for Thursday through Monday.

Meanwhile, the NFL has yet to reschedule Sunday’s conference championship games because the storm mainly impacts areas east of the Rockies, where these games won’t take place. According to AccuWeather, Denver’s AFC Championship will see a high of 23°F with potential snow, while Seattle’s NFC Championship expects a milder 44°F with no precipitation.

Fan Take: Weather disruptions remind us that even professional sports must adapt to nature’s unpredictability, underscoring the importance of player safety and fan experience. For basketball enthusiasts, these schedule changes mean adjusting expectations but also building anticipation for rescheduled high-stakes matchups.
