Los Angeles Angels star pitcher Ben Joyce is set to miss the rest of the 2025 MLB season after surgery for a serious shoulder injury.

Ben Joyce ruled out the rest of 2025 with a shoulder injury

The Los Angeles Angels suffered a major loss on their roster for the remainder of this 2025 Major League Baseball season.

After a long period of discomfort in his right shoulder, the 24-year-old had the option to deal with the issue and underwent surgery on May 14th.

Joyce became infamous for his right-arm cannon, showing his quality and power in 2024 by constantly exceeding 102 mph with his fastball.

The youngster spent weeks on the injury list, presented as a 60-day IL on May 9th, with Angels coach Ron Washington talking about Joyce’s upcoming absence.

He said: “We never had surgery on our minds. It just happened. It could have been an asset. Now we know that we don’t have that asset at least this year.”

In the 2025 season, Joyce appeared in five games, and despite the fact that he was far from an impressive 6.23 era, it was clear that the star pitcher would be able to offer much to come.

Joyce ranked the highest among all MLB pitchers at the fastest fastball speed (of all players with over 50 pitches), so his fastball speed was a major feature that stood out.

Joyce has started rehabilitation with shoulder surgery so there is no exact return date for Joyce, but the 24-year-old spoke about this setback and how his only focus is on returning to full health.

Joyce said: “At the end of the day, I just want to be healthy, I want to contribute to the team. I’m not really thinking about what Velo is.
