Barcelona is intensifying their quest for a striker to succeed Robert Lewandowski, with Julian Alvarez and Dusan Vlahovic among the potential candidates, as reported by various sources to ESPN.
The 37-year-old Lewandowski’s contract is set to end in June, and while his future remains uncertain, Barcelona is proactively planning for life after the Polish forward.
According to club insiders, president Joan Laporta is “still dreaming” of acquiring Alvarez from Atletico Madrid, viewing him as a perfect addition to the squad. Meanwhile, sporting director Deco is exploring more budget-friendly alternatives.
Securing Alvarez could prove challenging, as Atletico is expected to demand over 100 million euros (around 11.8 billion yen) for the player, and Barcelona may face competition from other top European teams.
Recently, ESPN also reported that Premier League leaders Arsenal are contemplating a move for the Argentine star.
Consequently, Deco is assessing other options to replace Lewandowski, including Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic.
The Serbian forward had caught the attention of Barcelona even prior to his transfer from Fiorentina to Juventus in 2022, and with his contract also expiring in June, he appears to be an enticing prospect for the La Liga club.

Vlahovic, 25, is currently sidelined with a groin injury but has already netted six goals and supplied two assists in 17 competitive matches this season.
Meanwhile, Barcelona has been monitoring Alvarez for years; club scouts from South America even suggested signing him before his move to Manchester City.
A club source expressed that there is “still a long way to go” in the pursuit of Alvarez despite the hefty price tag, stating: “A lot can happen, but we are keeping an eye on the situation.”
Alvarez, who has scored 11 goals in 29 appearances this season, is contracted to Atletico until 2030 and has a release clause set at 500 million euros.
This news is significant for soccer fans as it marks a pivotal moment in Barcelona’s transition following the departure of a legendary player like Lewandowski. It could potentially reshape the competitive landscape of European football, particularly if Barcelona successfully lures a young talent like Alvarez or a proven performer like Vlahovic.
