Less than a day after the conference title games decided the Super Bowl participants, heavy wagering has already begun. BetMGM lists the Seattle Seahawks as 4.5-point favorites over the New England Patriots.

The Super Bowl is the biggest annual betting event in the U.S., and with two prominent teams and multiple storylines, oddsmakers are relieved the Patriots advanced instead of the Broncos, who would have been led by backup Jarrett Stidham. Circa Sports reported Monday that one bettor placed the first seven-figure wager on this matchup, putting $1.1 million on the Patriots money line for Super Bowl LX at +188. If New England wins, that stake would return just under $2.1 million.

New England reached the Super Bowl despite a sputtering offense — quarterback Drake Maye has been sacked five times in each of three postseason games and the team has scored just 54 points in the playoffs. Their run has been powered by a stingy defense that has limited opponents to under 3.5 yards per play and yielded only 26 total points. The largest remaining futures wager publicly tied to the Patriots is a $30,000 BetMGM ticket at 22-1, which would pay $660,000.

Fan take: Big-money bets like this show how much national interest and financial stakes the Super Bowl draws, turning even defensive-driven teams into must-watch stories. For NFL fans, the wager highlights how narratives — a tough defense, a heavily pressured QB, or a surprise conference winner — can shape betting markets and the league’s broader drama.
