Tottenham Hotspur are struggling. Thomas Frank’s recent misfortunes have only further alienated a desperate fan base who expressed their displeasure at the weekend when Spurs took one point and suffered a heavy defeat at Burnley.

Cristan Romero and Micky van de Ven have faced each other a number of times this year, but it hasn’t been enough to prevent Tottenham from reports of their place at the bottom of the Premier League as they find themselves in a relegation battle for the second year in a row.

The background shows that although Spurs finished 17th last year, the gap to the bottom three was never so large that they were in real danger of dropping down the table. Now, it’s clear that the north Londoner needs to start picking up points. West Ham United are 18th in the table, but with two wins on the bounce their eight-point gap could close in the coming weeks.

There is more than one problem for Frank to overcome, but it is clear that Tottenham need more from up front and this needs to be rectified before the January period closes in less than a week.

Spurs lead the race for Premier League forwards

Tottenham urgently need to revamp their attacking line-up. Dominic Solanke has returned from injury and provides a strong central presence. However, he looked rusty against Burnley.

Richarlison is sidelined with injury and Randall Kolo Muani has struggled since joining the Lilywhites on loan from Paris Saint-Germain last summer.

While creative issues form a central part of the club’s struggles, the strikers need to offer more, bringing energy, passion and dynamism.

According to Caught Offside, ENIC Group has identified Manchester City star Omar Marmouche as a player to upgrade to number nine.

Spurs, along with Aston Villa, are at the forefront of the race to sign the Egyptian striker, who has played second fiddle to Erling Haaland this season.

Although he has only been with Josep Guardiola’s side for a year, Marmouche would not have imagined such a sideline role, and the aforementioned report claims he is interested in moving elsewhere.

Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe are competing for the 26-year-old, with the latter preparing to offer €30 million (approximately JPY 2.6 billion), but the player’s preference is to remain in the Premier League.

Why Marmouche stopped Kolo Muani at Spurs

Is it unfair that Kolo Muani doesn’t seem interested in the Tottenham kit? It wouldn’t be unfair to say there were moments when the Frenchman could have worked harder, chased down loose balls and taken more time to score.

It seems highly unlikely that he will be traded in Tottenham colors next season, which would open up space for a shift to Marmouche. After all, the Egyptian was hailed as “one of the best strikers in the world” by content creator and German soccer expert Feargo.

Juventus are thought to have made contact with PSG about a potential loan for Colo Muani, who impressed in Italy throughout the second half of last season, and the right gears could be in place for Spurs to sign an exciting upgrade.

Like Kolo Muani, Marmouche’s athleticism makes him well-suited for a variety of position roles. In this respect, he would provide the perfect counterpoint to Solanke, who is more entrenched as a strong central figure.

The Man City man shares assets with Kolo Muani and has already proven he can do more in the Premier League. Last season, he started 14 games in the Premier League, scoring seven goals, missing just three big chances and creating eight chances for his team-mates.

That’s the kind of breadth the Spurs’ offensive players lack. Indeed, Kolo Muani failed to provide that and his struggles at N17 were exacerbated by a perceived lack of commitment.

According to Manchester City writer Radu Christian, Marmouche is a “superstar” with a talent to match his tenacity. He is genuine and worth pursuing, especially given Aston Villa’s own vested interest, and his signing will only make Unai Emery’s side stronger as they look to shatter the hegemony of the Big Six.

A number of things need to happen for Marmouche to play for Tottenham this time next week, but ENIC should jump on any glimmer of hope. You have to do that.

Spurs ready to sign Gallagher in ‘unusual’ £56m upgrade

Spurs are reportedly interested in signing the star player who would be an upgrade to Conor Gallagher in midfield.
