Crystal Palace have confirmed Marc Guehi’s departure and are considering signing Charlie Cresswell as his replacement.
The 23-year-old defender has performed very well with Toulouse in France, and it remains to be seen whether the team will be prepared to allow him to leave this month. According to Fabrizio Romano, they have already turned down several offers for the young defender. They don’t want to lose players midway through the season.
The 23-year-old has been hailed as an “indispensable” addition to the French team. West Ham United are also interested in Cresswell.
Palace hot on Charlie Cresswell
However, Crystal Palace made inquiries about the player and requested details about a potential transfer. It remains to be seen whether they will be able to make an acceptable offer for the player this month. They need to tighten up at the back and Cresswell would be a solid long-term signing. He has demonstrated his ability in France and has the quality to play well in England as well.
The opportunity to move to the Premier League would be an exciting one for the young defender. It would be a step up in his career. Crystal Palace are currently competing in Europe and have a talented squad. If there’s a concrete proposal on the table, he might want to join in.
Cresswell has also been linked with a move to Liverpool or Newcastle United.
Cresswell instead of Guehi?
Guehi was a key player for the Eagles, so they need to properly replace him. It would be ideal to sign one of the best young defenders in French football. If they can sign him for a reasonable amount, this deal could look like a huge success in the future.
On the other hand, regular football in England could help the defender develop further and reach his potential.
