Not Bourbon (Not Impossible – Bourbon Belle) passed away on December 28, 2025, at the age of 20. Bred and owned by Charles Fipke and trained by Roger Attfield, Not Bourbon was a remarkable racehorse whose achievements have left a lasting impact on Canadian horse racing.

During his time on the track, Not Bourbon captured some of Canada’s most significant races, including the Queen’s Plate, Plate Trial, Queenston Stakes, and Overskate Stakes. He demonstrated early talent by winning the Bull Page Stakes as a two-year-old and setting a six-furlong record at Woodbine. Over the course of three racing seasons, Not Bourbon earned over $1 million and was honored with the Sovereign Award for his exceptional performance as a 3-year-old.

Following his retirement from racing, Not Bourbon excelled as a stallion in Ontario, securing his legacy in breeding circles. In 2020, he moved to British Columbia, where he spent his initial season at Emerald Acres in Aldergrove before transferring to Flying Horse Farm in West Kelowna. There, he continued to significantly influence the local breeding industry.

Not Bourbon will be fondly remembered not only for his prowess on the racetrack but also for his valuable contributions to the breeding programs in both Ontario and British Columbia.

This obituary was first published by Paulick Report on January 28, 2026.

Fan Take: The passing of Not Bourbon marks the loss of a true champion whose dual impact as both a racehorse and sire has shaped Canadian racing legacy. For fans and breeders alike, his story highlights the importance of strong bloodlines and the ongoing influence great horses have on the future of the sport.
