Alex Bregman revealed that joining the Boston Red Sox after being offered to sign with the Tigers prior to the 2025 season, and the MLB star received a boo chorus during the opening excavation of a three-game series between the franchise.

Alex Bregman says that choosing the Red Sox over the Tigers was not a dis

The accumulation of the 2025 season was a very interesting time for Alex Bregman. After eight years with the Houston Astros, he decided to say goodbye to the MLB franchise.

His position as a free agent warned many potential suitors, including a six-year deal with the $171.5 million Detroit Tigers that Bregman rejected.

Instead, the 31-year-old decided to accept a $120 million offer for three years with the Boston Red Sox. The transaction also holds an “opt-out” one and two years later.

It’s highly likely that he’ll be in Detroit, with Bregman praising the four World Series winners as the Red Sox face the Tigers in the 3-Game Series.

He said: “Obviously, I was really close to signing, but I decided I was very happy to come here and come here and come and come and have really enjoyed my time with my teammates.

“Obviously, they have an incredible ball club over there. They can finish No. 1 in the American League, play very well, really pitch, really hit and have a good defense.

The two franchises began their trio’s encounter on May 12th as the Detroit Tigers pushed the Red Sox aside and won an impressive 14-2 victory at home.

However, during the match, Bregman received a boo chorus the first time he got up to the bat. It was clear that Detroit supporters hadn’t moved forward from his decision to join Boston.

The Boston Red Sox star revealed that he was not surprised by the response, and while he was asked about the reception in Detroit, he received a very respectable approach, but insisted that joining the Red Sox was not a “dis” to Detroit.

“It wasn’t Detroit’s diss. I decided to play for the Boston Red Sox. I’m very excited to play for this ball club.”
