Tottenham are reportedly in the race to sign Bayern Munich stalwart Leon Goretzka, with the north London club looking to take advantage of the German’s uncertain future.

As the January transfer window enters its final days, Italian journalist Matteo Moretto has revealed that Spurs have formally inquired about the possibility of signing the 30-year-old and are aiming to make a high-stakes move with Atletico Madrid and AC Milan.

Leon Goretzka, whose contract at the Allianz Arena expires in June 2026, recently admitted that a move abroad is an “exciting” prospect for his development.

Bayern Munich are currently considering whether to cash in now or risk losing him for a reduced fee in the summer, with the player’s representatives understood to have submitted multiple offers.

Mollet reported to X: “Atletico Madrid are not the only ones interested in Leon Goretzka. In recent hours, Tottenham have also made inquiries about the German footballer.”

“The Madrid club is looking for a midfielder who can also raise the bar in terms of personality and leadership.

“It is not yet clear whether Bayern Munich will let him leave at this point. The German club will make a decision in the next few hours about the departure of Leon Goretzka, whose contract expires in June.”

The interest from the Spurs isn’t entirely sudden. Rumors surfaced last month suggesting Goretzka’s agent had already held preliminary talks with club executives.

Tottenham, under head coach Thomas Frank, have been active this winter and have already secured the signing of Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid.

However, with the club currently in the bottom half of the Premier League standings, Frank is in desperate need of more experienced players in his dressing room.

The German club are expected to make a final decision on his future in the coming hours, with a price tag of around 20 million euros being mooted for his departure in January.

Goretzka has previously been linked with a move to Manchester United.

Goretzka is the player Tottenham need

Signing a player of Goretzka’s stature would be a significant coup for a team struggling with consistency.

Goretzka, who has played more than 300 games for Bayern and won multiple Bundesliga titles, brings “character and leadership” that Mollet claims both Spurs and Atletico desperately need.

Goretzka offers a rare combination of defensive recovery and late arrival. His ability to win aerial duels and advance will complement Gallagher’s energy and James Madison’s creativity.

Goretzka could function as a traditional number eight or a deeper defensive screen, providing much-needed cover as Spurs play their remaining Champions League games.

However, his versatility is undoubtedly his most attractive feature. Goretzka was comfortable in multiple midfield roles and also played in a defensive role when needed.
