According to recent reports, Middlesbrough have made an offer to sign the Championship serial scorer ahead of three other clubs.

Sarmiento ‘very happy’ to join Middlesbrough

At one stage it looked like Jeremy Sarmiento was destined for Birmingham City, but then Middlesbrough took over the Blues and flew in to bring the South American on a permanent deal with Brighton & Hove Albion.

It’s a statement of intent from those on Teeside who have welcomed their third signing after Chelsea’s Leo Castledine and Aston Villa’s Finley Munro.

Speaking for the first time since joining Boro, Sarmiento told the club website: “I’m really happy to finally be here. The ambition of everyone at the club is what drew me to Boro. I’m hungry to progress and can’t wait to show people what I’m capable of.”

After dropping out of the Premier League, it may not be long before the winger gets another chance to make an impact in the top flight.

As it stands, Kim Helberg’s Middlesbrough side sit second in the table, three points behind Coventry City, who have certainly been under pressure of late. Suddenly, it’s not just automatic promotion that Boro can achieve this season, it’s going to the top.

January’s transfer business may not be over yet. Helberg and others have reportedly been linked with Celtic’s current Championship goalscorer Joe Rothwell.

Middlesbrough open contract offer for Adam Armstrong

According to Sports Boom, Middlesbrough have opened an offer to sign Adam Armstrong from Southampton, with the offer worth eight figures. They are competing with Wrexham, Stoke City and Ipswich Town in the four-man transfer race in the Championship.

It’s easy to see why Middlesbrough, a side competing for promotion, had their sights set on Armstrong. The 28-year-old is a serial goalscorer at this level and already has experience in the Premier League. He could make a huge difference on Teesside if we secure his signature.

The goals haven’t stopped this season either. Armstrong played in 32 games in all competitions, scoring 11 goals and providing four assists. Despite Southampton’s struggles, he continued to make headlines, taking his tally to 139 goals in senior competition.

Boro’s forwards lack the same belief. Tommy Conway and David Strelek have both yet to reach double digits in goals, and a player as experienced as Armstrong could take that spot.

There is a lot of interest in the Southampton striker, but reports suggest Middlesbrough are already looking to get ahead of rival clubs in securing a sweet deal with final conditions.
