Is Jorge Martin on the verge of exiting Aprilia ahead of MotoGP 2027?

Jorge Martin, the 2024 MotoGP World Champion, will make a decision about his career after this season and reportedly will not continue with Aprilia. According to Motorsport.com, Martin has secured a contract to join Yamaha for the 2027 MotoGP season once his current deal with Aprilia ends, marking the beginning of the new 850cc era under the Blue brand.

This move would coincide with Fabio Quartararo’s anticipated exit from Yamaha at the end of 2026, thereby opening a coveted Yamaha seat that Martin is expected to fill. Meanwhile, this shift would likely leave a spot vacant at Aprilia for the 2027 season.

Martin initially joined Aprilia Racing for 2025, after Ducati chose Marc Marquez instead of him for their second factory seat alongside Francesco Bagnaia. He left the 2024 title-winning Pramac team in favor of Aprilia’s rig.

His first season aboard the RS-GP was challenging, plagued by injuries sustained during pre-season testing and training before the opening race. Additionally, a crash at the Qatar GP left him vulnerable when Fabio Di Giannantonio accidentally ran over him.

Martin returned to racing before the summer break at Brno, managing a top-ten finish and later securing fourth place in Hungary. However, he suffered another injury following a first-turn collision with teammate Marco Bezzecchi during the Japanese Sprint, which ended up being his best result of the year.

Rumors had circulated that Martin sought to end his Aprilia contract early to join another team in 2026, but this did not come to fruition. With Quartararo’s move to Honda now official, Martin appears poised to take over the Frenchman’s place at Yamaha.

Fan Take: This potential switch signals a major reshuffle among MotoGP’s top riders, which could redefine team dynamics and on-track rivalries. For fans, Jorge Martin joining Yamaha brings fresh excitement and could herald a thrilling new chapter in the sport’s evolving landscape.
