Alexander Volkanovski Minimizes UFC Title, Highlights What He Considers His Top MMA Achievement

Alexander Volkanovski, the headline fighter for UFC 325, has achieved far more than just winning a championship. As a two-time UFC featherweight titleholder, he is recognized as one of the greatest in division history thanks to his sustained dominance.

In April at UFC 314, Volkanovski reclaimed the featherweight crown by defeating Diego Lopez, proving he’s far from finished inside the Octagon. Despite this, neither his initial title victory over Max Holloway nor his standout performance against Lopez rank as his proudest career moment.

Volkanovski is set to defend his title for the first time in his second reign during UFC 325, headlining the event before his home crowd in Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena. Looking ahead to this fight, he reflected on his journey, emphasizing that his greatest accomplishment isn’t just the championship but having remained true to himself throughout the process.

In an interview with Paramount, Volkanovski shared, “Many ask what my greatest achievement is, and I say it’s been able to stay authentic and keep being me. It was a gradual climb without hype or external pushes, and even as a champion, it took time for people to truly understand me.” He added that he now enjoys a strong and loyal fanbase that connects with him because of how he conducts himself.

The upcoming rematch against Lopez sparked controversy, with many fans and analysts feeling undefeated contenders Lerone Murphy and Movsar Evloev deserved the shot more. Volkanovski acknowledges this viewpoint, admitting that facing an opponent he has already beaten doesn’t add significantly to his legacy. Speaking to ESPN Australia, he said, “From a legacy perspective, a rematch with an opponent I recently defeated likely won’t boost my standing much. Still, fans want to see me fight, and with the bout happening in Sydney, excitement is high.”

Fan Take:
For fight fans, Volkanovski’s sincerity and continued dominance provide a compelling narrative beyond just title wins, showing the importance of character and perseverance in MMA. This mindset elevates the sport by highlighting personal growth alongside athletic achievement, inspiring the next generation of fighters and fans alike.
