NHL Fan Survey: Rogers Arena, Home of the Canucks, Finishes 29th in Fan Ratings

Fans often have strong opinions about Rogers Arena, the home of the Vancouver Canucks, and a recent survey by The Athletic confirmed that sentiment. NHL fans ranked the arena 29th out of 32 in the league, evaluating factors such as location, facilities, atmosphere, and affordability. Rogers Arena received a score of 5.8 out of 10, tying it with Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena.

One fan commentary highlighted the arena’s shortcomings, saying, “Rogers will never be ranked highly simply because of its size. The narrow concourses between overpasses make it feel cramped, unlike other arenas such as the Climate Pledge in Seattle, which has a noticeably better environment.” Despite recent upgrades—like a new scoreboard that temporarily postponed concerts and seating still in development—Rogers Arena still feels somewhat outdated compared to newer venues like Climate Pledge Arena, which ranked eighth in the survey.

Vancouver’s arena scores in overall categories reveal a less favorable reputation. Similar to the Canucks’ on-ice struggles, the arena ranks in the bottom two in atmosphere and affordability league-wide. Its strong point remains its convenient downtown location, placing 12th out of 32.

Surprisingly, Rogers Arena scores even lower than Calgary’s Scotiabank Saddledome (25th), which is slated for demolition soon as part of a redevelopment plan. Only three NHL venues ranked below Rogers: Crypto.com Arena (Los Angeles Kings), KeyBank Center (Buffalo Sabres), and Canadian Tire Center (Ottawa Senators). The league’s top five, meanwhile, include venues like Montreal’s Bell Centre, Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena, and Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.

This information echoes broader concerns about the Canucks’ future and team morale, suggesting that improvements in their home environment could bolster on-ice performance and fan experience alike.

Fan Take: This ranking underscores the importance of modern, fan-friendly arenas in building team identity and excitement. For the NHL, revitalizing outdated venues like Rogers Arena could be crucial in attracting more spectators and enhancing the overall league image.
