Madison Square Garden Issues Strict Warning: Fighters Face ‘Permanent Ban’ Following Event Brawl

Madison Square Garden has announced that individuals involved in fights at its events may face permanent bans following several clashes at a recent gathering. Footage obtained by TMZ.com revealed two separate brawls on Friday during the weigh-in for the boxing match headlined by Teofimo Lopez and Shakur Stevenson. One altercation began while Bill Haney, father of boxer Devin Haney, was being interviewed near the stage.

In a statement, MSG emphasized, “Violence will not be tolerated at MSG at any event, including hockey, basketball, boxing, concerts, or special events. Anyone found participating in violent behavior, whether an attendee or participant, will be permanently banned from attending or taking part in any events at any MSG venue.”

Tensions were already high during Thursday’s press conference for the Lopez-Stevenson title fight, where fighters exchanged family-related insults, prompting loud reactions from the crowd. Additionally, a fight occurred close to the cage during UFC 322 at MSG on November 15.

This warning comes as the arena prepares for a packed weekend. The boxing event is sold out, and the Los Angeles Lakers will face the New York Knicks on Sunday in a nationally televised game that could mark LeBron James’ final appearance at MSG.

Fan Take:
This crackdown on violence at Madison Square Garden is crucial for maintaining a safe and family-friendly environment for basketball fans. Ensuring order at such iconic venues preserves the sport’s reputation and allows star players, like LeBron James, to perform without distractions or safety concerns.
