Gresini Ducati: ‘No Reinvention Needed’ After Stellar 2025 MotoGP Campaign

The Gresini Ducati MotoGP Team doesn’t feel the need to make any drastic changes for the 2026 season, according to their sporting director, Michele Masini. After an impressive 2025 campaign where Gresini Racing clinched four Grand Prix victories, secured the title of Best Independent Team, took the Independent Riders crown, earned Rookie of the Year honors, and finished second in both the riders’ and teams’ overall standings, Masini insists the team’s focus should remain steady rather than trying new methods.

“We don’t need to reinvent the wheel,” Masini told MotoGP.com during the team’s presentation in Kuala Lumpur. “Our approach should mirror last season—with commitment and focus—because we understand our capabilities. The best strategy is to stay grounded and keep working diligently.”

Alex Marquez was the standout for Gresini in 2025, winning three races and ending the year as the championship runner-up. While it was arguably his best performance yet, Masini believes there’s room for further growth in 2026. “Last year was nearly flawless on paper, so improving might be challenging, but it isn’t out of the question,” he said. Masini added that the upgraded factory package offers new tools to boost performance, which the team is eager to utilize.

Masini also addressed the absence of Fermin Aldeguer at the launch, noting the young rider is recovering well from a broken femur suffered in early January. The team boss described Aldeguer as “improving day by day” and determined to get back on track quickly. Speaking via video call, Aldeguer indicated he hopes to return for the Brazilian Grand Prix, the second round of the 2026 season scheduled for March 20-22.

Fan Take: This news is exciting for racing fans because it signals continuity and confidence from a team that’s been on the rise. If Gresini keeps up its strong momentum and sees further growth from key riders like Marquez and Aldeguer, it could shake up the battle for podiums and add more depth to the MotoGP championship fight.
