In Sunrise, Florida, Mark Scheifele scored the decisive goal with just over four minutes remaining, securing a 2-1 victory for the Winnipeg Jets over the shorthanded Florida Panthers on Saturday. The Jets, who historically struggle when trailing in the third period—they are 1-18-2 in such situations—found themselves behind 1-0 with 20 minutes left but rallied to take control, netting two goals in a little over seven minutes. Cole Perfetti tied the game with approximately 11 and a half minutes to go, and Scheifele then tallied his 27th goal of the season to seal the win. Jets goaltender Eric Comrie made 27 saves, including a crucial stop on Matthew Tkachuk’s shot with 37 seconds remaining. The Panthers’ final attempts by Sam Reinhart and Sam Bennett were thwarted, ensuring Winnipeg’s victory, their third in the last nine games.

For Florida, Etu Luostarinen’s goal marked their third consecutive loss and left them eight points behind the NHL’s second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. The Panthers, who have been missing key players like Aleksander Barkov all season, were without Brad Marchand, Anton Randle, and Seth Jones during Saturday’s game. Notably, this was the first game of the season where Florida led until the third period but failed to earn at least one point, despite entering the game with a solid 17-0-1 record and the league’s fifth-best overall record. Goalie Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 19 shots for the Panthers.

Upcoming games include the Jets facing Dallas on Monday, while the Panthers will host Buffalo on the same day.
