Freddie Freeman doesn’t want to retire when his current contract is up

Los Angeles star baseman Freddie Freeman is what people call “pure batter.”

He’s the type of guy who can roll out of bed without sweating and collect four hits. The player is terrified every time he steps into the box, especially at a pivotal moment.

As of May 21st, Freeman has registered 2,319 hits. He has the most hits of any active player at this time. The next big personal milestone staring at his square in his face is flaunting the mark of 3,000 hits.

In a recent conversation with Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register, Freeman talked about how special it is to win 3,000 career hits. Few people have made it successful around the history of the game. Perhaps unintentionally, Freeman gave a glimpse into what his plans would be for the future.

“It’s clearly not set on stone. I have two years left on this contract (after 2025),” Freeman said. “Then I’d like to play two more years. I’ll be 40 in September 2029. So if I had 150 hits in all five years (average 3,000 hits), including this year (3,000 hits).

Freeman’s durability, coupled with his willingness to play every day in a relatively manageable position, makes it very reasonable to achieve this goal. People from California never relied on hitting Homer. Instead, he sprays the ball on every part of the park, relying on the perfect power for bat control and hand and eye adjustment.

It’s unlikely that he won’t end his career with Blue. LA hired him as one of his own, and his family could come to all the games given that he lives just below the Orange County highway where he grew up, and Freeman etched forever into lore when he hit the game-winning Grand Slam in Game 1 of the 2024 World Series (not to mention winning the World Series MVP Award for the Process).

As long as he wants to play, it’s almost certainly visible to reach the 3,000-hit mark in the uniform.

It seems there is a minor confusion in the original headline about the teams involved in the trade.
