  • Liverpool beat Premier League rivals Chelsea

Liverpool are closing in on one of their most significant long-term defensive investments as Jeremy Jacquet moves to the North West today to complete the final stages of his move from Stade Rene.

This update was confirmed by respected journalist David Ornstein, who reported that all parties are working to finalize an agreement and that medical checks are expected to take place soon.

The 20-year-old defender is set to sign a long-term contract with Liverpool, with his future guaranteed until June 2031, with the option of a further one-year extension.

The deal shows Liverpool’s confidence in Jacquet’s potential, with the club seeing him as a key part of their defensive plans for the next 10 years.

The transfer has already been agreed, with Liverpool set to pay an initial fee of £55m and an additional £5m from the summer of 2026.

This structure reflects Liverpool’s careful financial planning, while also allowing Rennes to maximize the value of one of their most valuable assets.

Jacquet’s rise to fame at Rennes was rapid. Having broken into the first team at a young age, he has been praised for his poise, talent and potential.

Liverpool’s decisive move was made following strong interest from several Premier League rivals, particularly Chelsea and Manchester United.

Chelsea considered the deal at an early stage but ultimately backed out due to internal considerations, with United reportedly attempting to hijack the move late.

Liverpool’s advantage lay in their early involvement and clarity. The club offered Jacquet a clear path to joining the first team, alongside a long-term sporting project built around sustained competitiveness domestically and in Europe.

That vision was decisive in convincing both the players and Rennes.
