With only a few months left until the end of a successful season, Norwich City will be gunning for the chance to make a surprising breakthrough into the Championship play-offs.

They occupy the final play-off spot, 14 points behind Wrexham, but there’s something even more interesting going on in such a close-knit division, and Philippe Clement has revitalized the Canaries since he came through the gates, as the Norfolk side have won three of their last five league games.

Norwich could be active again on EFL’s Elite League deadline day as the Canaries continue to spend big…

Norwich hope to sign exciting young player

Already in January and early February, Clement and company welcomed four newcomers to their vibrant group.

Norwich’s latest foray into the busy market resulted in the signing of Landers FC attacker Mohamed Toure, with the former Premier League outfit spending a whopping £2.6 million on the Australian international.

Norwich don’t seem to have all their work done either, with former Leeds United midfielder Glen Kamara said to be on their radar.

An update to the PinkUn newsletter, published before deadline day, also suggests that a move for Norwich for Dundalk FC defender Vinnie Leonard could become a reality.

Indeed, the 17-year-old is expected to sign within hours and leave Ireland to set up the Canaries’ academy.

This is definitely a coup on Norwich’s side, with the likes of Crystal Palace having previously been eyeing the teenager, with the Canaries hoping they have secured a young Hara, who is in the mold of Jovon Makama and has a promising future.

How Leonard can become Makama 2.0

Norwich fans would have been thrilled to see their beloved team sign Macama last summer, even if they were a little hesitant about the 22-year-old being an inexperienced prospect who will take time to adapt to the demands of the Championship.

In fact, the Nottingham-born striker only scored nine league goals at home in 79 games during his time at former employers Lincoln City.

However, any concerns they had were quickly dispelled by his excellent form for Clement’s side so far this season. He currently has an impressive 13 goals in 30 games for Norfolk and the young talent is expected to only get better. As EFL pundit Sam Parkin put it, he turned out to be “one of the signings of the season” in the second tier.

Of course, Leonard isn’t expected to rise to the same level and make a name for himself right away, but it wouldn’t be a shock to eventually see the 17-year-old earn first-team minutes and shine, with former Dundalk ace Richie Towell hailing him as an “invaluable” starlet.

After all, he was only 17 and never seemed to be daunted by the challenge of playing in the League of Ireland as a boy. Last year, Leonard had a very impressive performance with 13 clean sheets in 34 league games.

The Championship is a whole different kettle of fish, but if Macama can make the jump with ease, the teenage sensation will be giving himself the boost that he will transform into an EFL-ready defender and one day shine alongside the 22-year-old in the new Canaries squad.

Before that happens, Macama will be doing everything in his power to be confident he can score more goals to take Clement’s side further up the league table, while Norwich remain excited about what the long-term future potentially has in store for their Irish new signing.
