Is Pedro Acosta Set to Join Ducati’s MotoGP Team in 2027? Davide Tardozzi Weighs In

Ducati’s Davide Tardozzi has addressed rumors about Pedro Acosta joining the Italian manufacturer for MotoGP in 2027, emphasizing that their main focus at the moment is finalizing a new deal with Marc Marquez. The speculation around the 2027 rider lineup intensified after reports suggested Ducati has reached a two-year contract agreement with the current champion Marquez, though no official announcement has yet been made. At the Sepang test on Tuesday, Tardozzi acknowledged that “a few small details still need to be resolved” before the contract can be finalized.

Additionally, Spanish reports last week claimed that Pedro Acosta would become part of Ducati’s factory team starting in 2027. When asked about this, Tardozzi stated, “Right now, we’re concentrating on completing Marc’s contract. It seems close, and we hope to finalize it soon. Only after that will we discuss other matters.”

There have been rumors suggesting that Marquez’s contract extension might stretch until the end of 2028, but Tardozzi refuted this idea. He explained, “This isn’t really up for debate. With a champion like Marc, it’s important to go over all the details properly. Marc wants to remain with Ducati, and Ducati wants to keep him, so I’m confident we’ll reach an agreement.”

Interestingly, Pecco Bagnaia’s name has been absent from the ongoing Ducati discussions, with the double world champion reportedly considering moves to Yamaha or Aprilia. While Tardozzi acknowledged Bagnaia’s significance to Ducati, he insisted that talks about other riders would only happen once Marquez’s contract is sealed. “Pecco holds a special place with us, but I don’t want to discuss other riders until Marc’s deal is finalized—just in case it doesn’t happen, and we need to reconsider. First Marc, then we’ll take it from there,” he said.

Fan Take: This update is crucial for racing enthusiasts because securing Marc Marquez would not only stabilize Ducati’s lineup but also reshape the competitive dynamics in MotoGP. Additionally, the possibility of Pedro Acosta joining highlights a potential generational shift, promising fresh rivalries and excitement for the sport’s future.
