Dana White Blasts ‘Terrible Judge’ Following Featherweight GOAT’s Defeat at UFC Vegas 113

UFC President Dana White unleashed a fierce tirade following a contentious win over widely regarded featherweight legend Jose Aldo.

This Saturday marks the start of the new year with the UFC’s first Fight Night under Paramount’s banner, dubbed UFC Vegas 113. The event’s headliner features bantamweight contenders Mario Bautista and Vinicius Oliveira facing off in a highly anticipated contest.

Although Bautista once maintained an undefeated streak through his first eight UFC bouts, he never quite gained strong support from fans or the promotion itself.

When Bautista inked his UFC contract in 2019, he was immediately matched against Cory Sandhagen—a daunting debut opponent. After suffering a first-round submission loss, Bautista rebounded with a string of wins but experienced another defeat soon after. He then strung together eight consecutive victories, highlighted by a win over Jose Aldo, often hailed as the greatest featherweight ever.

Their showdown at UFC 307 was Bautista’s biggest career highlight to date and a chance to prove himself against a top-tier opponent. However, the fight itself became controversial, as Bautista repeatedly pressed Aldo against the cage without mounting a decisive finish. Despite earning a split decision victory, the outcome frustrated Dana White deeply.

“The call tonight was terrible, it was terrible,” White vented during the post-fight press conference. “How do you win a fight if you’re not willing to fight? If you have a takedown attempt, why not try to stuff it? If a fighter clearly refuses to engage and stalls against the fence, that’s when the referee should step in and separate them.”

White went on to emphasize the referee’s responsibility to break up prolonged stalling, saying, “When you see that happening over and over, you should keep tearing them down. It’s common sense. If a fighter is gaming the system by avoiding action, the official needs to address it immediately.”

Following this, White did not slack on Bautista’s next challenge—after his split decision win over Aldo, Bautista faced Umar Nurmagomedov and lost by unanimous decision.

Fan Take:
This contentious decision and White’s blunt criticism highlight ongoing debates about fight engagement and referee intervention in MMA. For fans, it underscores the need for clearer standards to maintain excitement and ensure fighters earn their victories convincingly, shaping the sport’s competitive integrity moving forward.
