Michael Chandler Eyes Conor McGregor’s Former Rival as Potential White House Contender

Michael Chandler remains optimistic about competing at the upcoming UFC event at the White House in June. Initially, many expected “Iron” to close the show as part of the main event, but UFC President Dana White surprised fans by announcing a potential fight between Chandler and Conor McGregor—an idea Chandler himself hasn’t fully embraced. Despite White’s remarks, Chandler hasn’t ruled out the possibility of facing McGregor but has shifted his focus to another significant bout.

Chandler is now keenly watching Max Holloway’s upcoming BMF title defense. As an American fighter known for delivering exciting performances, his participation in the White House event would be fitting. Several other prominent U.S. fighters, like Justin Gaethje (potentially the interim lightweight champ) and Kayla Harrison (who might be sidelined due to injury), are also potential options. Holloway, representing Hawaii and holding a popular status in the UFC, will defend his BMF belt against Charles Oliveira at UFC 326 next month—a fight Chandler is closely following. He expressed confidence that Holloway will win and revealed interest in challenging for the BMF title should Holloway retain it.

Reflecting on past interactions, Chandler recalled his reaction when former opponent Dan Hooker called him out. Since his UFC debut—where he was initially a backup at UFC 254—Chandler made waves by knocking out Hooker in 2021. Hooker recently suggested a rematch after his own loss at UFC 325, though Chandler remains skeptical about Hooker’s seriousness, describing him as a character who often jokes around and doesn’t always take things literally.

Fan Take: This update is thrilling for MMA fans because it keeps the door open for a blockbuster showdown involving Chandler, who consistently brings intensity and skill to the octagon. If Chandler challenges for the BMF title or even eventually faces McGregor, it could spark some of the most electrifying moments in UFC history, elevating the sport’s profile even further.
