Pecco Bagnaia hints at a ‘major opportunity’ amid expected Ducati MotoGP departure in 2027

Pecco Bagnaia has disclosed that he faces a significant opportunity as the 2027 MotoGP season approaches, with his departure from Ducati seeming increasingly probable. Since making his MotoGP debut with Pramac in 2019, Bagnaia has remained with the Italian manufacturer, moving up to the factory Ducati team in 2021. He secured world championships in 2022 and 2023 and came close to finishing third in 2024 despite winning 11 Grands Prix.

The 2025 season proved challenging for Bagnaia as his teammate Marc Márquez dominated the GP25, with Bagnaia managing just two victories and dropping to fifth in the standings. During the winter period, Ducati’s attention has largely been on renewing Márquez’s contract, while Bagnaia admits he is currently not focused on plans for 2027.

Rumors have intensified about Bagnaia’s potential exit, especially as reports suggest Pedro Acosta has agreed to join Ducati alongside Márquez. Bagnaia has been linked with Yamaha and Aprilia, hinting that he will make a decision soon, likely during Thursday’s Sepang test. Reflecting on his situation and referring to Alex Márquez’s comments, Bagnaia said, “There are several options for 2027, and a great opportunity is on the table for me. I will decide shortly.”

During the final day of the Sepang test, Bagnaia showed promising form in a sprint simulation, finishing only marginally behind Alex Márquez on Gresini’s GP26. Although Bagnaia won the Malaysian Grand Prix sprint last year, he admitted he felt better during this year’s simulation. He explained that while last year’s sprint was tough, this time he felt more comfortable and smoother on the bike, enabling more consistent lap times despite tougher temperature conditions.

Regarding aerodynamic developments, Bagnaia appears to favor a 2024 front fairing combined with a different side wing setup, describing it as an updated but familiar design from 2025. He noted that if the race were tomorrow, this configuration would likely be the chosen specification.

Fan Take:
This news is a pivotal moment for racing fans, signaling the potential end of an era with Bagnaia’s Ducati tenure possibly coming to a close. His move could reshape the competitive landscape in MotoGP, bringing fresh dynamics and rivalries that will keep the sport thrilling for years to come.
