The PGA of America announced Wednesday that it has appointed Terry Clark as the association’s new chief executive officer. Mr Clark will take up his post on March 2nd, with Chief Championship Officer Kelly Hay serving as interim CEO next month.

Mr. Clark has served on the PGA of America Board of Directors since 2024. He comes to his new role from UnitedHealth Group, where he served as the organization’s chief marketing officer. Mr. Clark’s golf experience has expanded through sister company Optum’s sponsorship of The Players Championship, working with key partners such as Golf Channel and NBC.

“Golf is a sport that has a rare and lasting impact on individuals, families and communities, and the PGA of America is at the center of that impact,” Clark said in a statement released by the PGA. “Our greatest strength is the PGA of America Golf Professionals, trusted leaders in the community that showcases, teaches and grows the game of golf around the world. At a critical time for golf, we have the right people, the right assets and a meaningful opportunity to lead with purpose.”

“I am grateful for the confidence the executives and board have placed in me. My focus is to provide clarity, strengthen our culture, and empower our team to support our members and PGA of America Golf Professionals at the highest level, while elevating major championships and high-profile events as settings that define the game, our partners, and the communities we serve.”

Clark’s appointment follows the resignation of Derek Sprague in early January. Sprague was the first person to step down as CEO of the PGA of America after less than a year in the role after serving as both president and CEO.
