On Sunday, Liverpool host Manchester City at Anfield in what is set to be an intense showdown between the Premier League’s best sides of the past decade.

The Reds need a win to gain momentum heading into the second half of the season.

Meanwhile, Man City cannot afford to drop any more points if they are to catch up with leaders Arsenal.

Tensions are high on Merseyside and fans will be keen to witness it first hand. If you’d prefer to be there in person, check out our information on how to buy tickets for Liverpool vs. Manchester City.

Manager Arne Slott is expected to keep the same squad that beat Newcastle 4-1 last weekend.

Most notably, Dominik Szoboszlai is expected to continue in his ‘reverse’ role as right-back, filling in for the injured Jeremy Frimpong and Conor Bradley, and adding to the midfield presence in possession.

The only defensive change we expect is the experienced Andy Robertson replacing Milos Kerkes for this game.

Ibrahim Konate will partner Virgil van Dijk in the heart of defence, and is expected to link up with Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenbirch.

In attack, the partnership between Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike has been the talk of the Premier League.

Ekitike, who scored twice against Newcastle, will start up front, flanked by the always reliable Mohamed Salah and the versatile Kodi Gakpo.

Both giants will enter this match with contrasting momentum. Liverpool found their rhythm in early 2026, but City suffered from an uncharacteristic inconsistency and a rare lack of goals from Erling Haaland.

Liverpool best 6 (PL):

  • W 4-1 vs Newcastle

  • L 2-3 vs Bournemouth

  • D 1-1 vs Burnley

  • D 0-0 vs Arsenal

  • D 2-2 vs Fulham

  • D 0-0 vs Leeds

Manchester City last six (PL):

  • D 2-2 vs Spurs

  • W 2-0 vs Wolves

  • L 0-2 vs Man United

  • D 1-1 vs Brighton

  • D 1-1 vs Chelsea

City came from behind to win 3-0 in November, but Anfield has rarely been a good hunting ground for Josep Guardiola.

The Reds are expected to be far more threatening than they were at the Etihad, as Liverpool’s new style of attack is starting to take effect.
