The New York Racing Association (NYRA) has announced the cancellation of live racing at Aqueduct Racetrack for both Saturday and Sunday due to forecasted extreme cold and dangerously low wind chill temperatures expected to affect the New York metropolitan area over the weekend. NYRA is collaborating with the New York State Thoroughbred Horse Racing Association (NYTHA) and New York Thoroughbred Breeders, Inc. (NYTB) to reschedule the affected races and is in the process of applying for additional dates with the New York State Gaming Commission.

The $135,000 East View and $135,000 Damon Runyon stakes races, originally planned for Saturday, will now take place on Saturday, February 14th, with entries opening on Sunday, February 8th. Additionally, the overnight races that were set for Saturday and Sunday will be moved to February 19th and 20th, according to the latest Suidobashi Winter Condition Book, which can be accessed at https://www.nyra.com/aqueduct/horsemen/. Despite the pause in live racing, Aqueduct Racecourse will remain open for simulcast betting on both days.

For fans wanting to keep up with the action, America’s Day at the Races provides live coverage and expert analysis of the Aqueduct Winter Games on the FOX Sports network. Viewers can check broadcast schedules and channels at https://www.nyra.com/aqueduct/racing/tv-schedule. For bettors, NYRA Bets serves as the official wagering platform for all races during the Winter Games and is available nationwide through its app on iOS and Android devices at www.NYRABets.com.

Fan Take: This cancellation highlights the sport’s commitment to the safety of both horses and jockeys when faced with severe weather conditions, which is crucial for maintaining integrity in racing. While disappointing, the rescheduling efforts ensure that fans and participants still get to enjoy these important races, preserving the excitement and continuity of the winter racing season.
