During the UFC 325 fight week in Sydney, a particular incident sparked speculation among fans that a competitor might have jeopardized his second opportunity to join the UFC roster.

At the UFC 325 weigh-ins, New Zealand’s Aaron Tau was caught manipulating the scales by leaning against the curtains and lifting his heels, causing his weight to register lighter than reality. Initially weighed at 122.5 pounds, Tau’s second attempt revealed he actually weighed 129 pounds, which led to the cancellation of his flyweight bout. He was set to face Namsurai Batbayar in the Season 4 finale of the Road to UFC flyweight series, marking his second shot at securing a UFC contract after missing out on Dana White’s Contender Series. During the UFC 325 broadcast, it was unexpectedly announced that their fight would be postponed, prompting criticism from reporter Marcel Dorff and many others. However, a recent update from Chris Presnell on social media clarified that Tau had been replaced, with the flyweight final now scheduled to take place in Macau this May between Ying Shuai and Namsurai Batbayar, as confirmed by Batbayar’s manager and multiple sources.

Following the controversy, Aaron Tau released a brief statement on Instagram, though he did not admit to trying to manipulate the scales. The 32-year-old apologized to his opponent, UFC, team, and fans, acknowledging his failure to fulfill his primary responsibility: making weight and competing. “I pushed until the end but didn’t succeed in making weight or fighting. I’m sorry,” Tau expressed.
